Seventh Heaven: The Game Table
This episode’s topic is “The Physicality of gaming: Where you Game”
Welcome back to the newest episode of 2 Gms, 1 Mic. We’re starting to gear up for GenCon, and while going to conventions is fun, it’s important to think about where we game while not on vacation. In fact, having a comfortble place to game in probably contributes a lot to a satisfying campaign.

Only gamed without a table once when my anxiety got so bad I could barely leave my room.
Most of the time I’ve been in private venues but recently I’ve been playing in pubs and handing out business cards to anyone who looks interested.
It’s awesome!
Thanks for the shout out for Tough Justice.

Can the winner have $20 AND a nude pic of Nicky or Joe(Winner’s Choice)?

$20 AND Nude pic!? You ask too much! Plus, a nude pic of either of us would be worth much, much more than the $20…I’m a bronze Adonis come to life and Nicky is a stellar Aphrodite, there’s no way a nude picture of either of us would ever work, it would destroy the tubes of the intarwebz, burning them out with our accumulated radiance. Do you really want to break the interwebs?

Hey, I’ve been really enjoying the episodes so far. I’m about to start running a Savage Worlds conversion of the Iron Kingdoms setting with my wife and a few friends. I was interested in your input though as I’m a bit novice in GM’ing. What are some suggestions you would have for a GM running a game with new or relatively inexperienced players? What are some things I can do to draw them in and get them hooked? Thanks for your advice!

Well, the bet way to hook them is to be excited the whole time. Make sure you hit them with some furious fun, as SW is intended. I’d actually start the first (and maybe most of the subsequent) session “in media res.” Start each adventure with “roll initiative” so to speak. Try to end with good cliffhangers.

One way to remove permanent marker from your game map (mentioned in Episode 7) is to draw over the Sharpie ink with dry erase ink, then erase that. It doesn’t work with all materials, but it works with some.

I will try that if I didn’t throw it away. It’s been at my parents house for over a decade…

You mentioned pictures in your games and it reminded me of one of my personal favorite moments while gaming. One of our GMs runs a World of Darkness game and during one of the sessions we ended up in Shadow. For whatever reason (and I can’t remember why) we all reverted to children. Once he dropped the bomb on us that we were all children he passed around school pictures of children that he had found on the world wide webs (beware parents!). Those simple black and white pictures set the whole tone for the next couple of sessions and added a level of creepiness to the game that I don’t think would have been achieved if he hadn’t printed off those pictures.
Great podcast by the way, a friend recently recommended it and I am working through all your previous episodes.
